2. Decide What Your Family Needs

I strongly recommend that you give a good deal of thought to what your family needs in a home. In today's fast moving market a nice home with a reasonable price tag sells very quickly. Knowing what your family's needs are will help you make a decision more quickly, thus reducing the chance of missing that perfect home.

Checklist of features. It is a good idea to make a checklist of the features you would like in a home. Asking yourself these few questions will help in determining your family's needs.

  1. Is the age of the home important to us?
  2. Would we like a two story or would a single story better suit our needs?
  3. How many garage spaces do we need?
  4. How many bedrooms do we need?
  5. Do we need more than two bathrooms?
  6. Is it important to have the master bedroom close to the other bedrooms or is privacy more of a concern?
  7. Would we like to have the master bedroom upstairs, or downstairs?
  8. Is the kitchen size a main concern?
  9. Is the school district a main concern?
  10. Do we need a pool?
  11. What size yard do we want?
  12. How many living areas would we like to have?
  13. Is it important to have a formal dinning room or would the space better serve us somewhere else?
  14. How much square footage does our family need?

It is important to know that almost everyone has to compromise a little when finding a home. But, by taking the time to make a checklist of the things that are most important, you greatly increase the chances of finding the home that is the all around best for your family.
